Susumu Koshimizu, ‘Crack the stone in August ’70’ (1970).

Weight is the only thing that suggests the solidity of the stone. For all we know, the stone could be hollow, one must ultimately break the stone in order to discover its untouched physicality. A solid exterior does not necessarily equate to a solid interior.

 

Splitting open the stone and exposing its inside, was a means to show the rock itself.
